The Palace Theatre serves Benton County, working in cooperation with ACT I, Downtown Vinton, Vinton Parks and Recreation, and many other local clubs and organizations to promote our area as an entertainment destination. Over 60% of our patrons come from outside of Vinton proper. By offering family-friendly live shows and first-run movies at an affordable price, the Palace Theatre keeps local patron dollars in Benton County, and brings customers from Linn, Tama, Black Hawk, Buchannan counties, and beyond
Our dedicated trustee members are tireless supporters of the arts in Benton County. These ladies and gentlemen regularly give of their time and talent to uphold the Palace Theatre’s long tradition of affordable, quality entertainment in Vinton.
The Palace Theatre closed in the early 1970s. The building then served as a variety of businesses including a fitness center. In the mid 1990s the board members of ACT I of Benton County, including Lu Karr and Julie Zimmer, began an initiative to reopen the theatre for both movies and live stage productions. More than $500,000 was raised by the community and through local grants to fully renovate and re-open the Palace in November of 1999.
